I graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in education and am certified K-8. I am a wife, mother of two children, grandmother and teacher. I have always loved being with children and seeing them grow and progress throughout life. I assume that is why I have remained in teaching for many years.
I began my teaching career in 1974 as a substitute teacher with Metropolitan Schools of Nashville. I substituted until my first child started school then became a full-time teacher. My first full- time position was at Glengarry Elementary as a second grade teacher. I changed schools frequently due to earning my tenure. This was a great experience for me. I stayed at Glengarry two years teaching second grade then was a second grade teacher at Glencliff for two more years. I taught kindergarten at Martha Vaught, Lockeland, and Kirkpatrick before asking for a transfer to Norman Binkley in 1987. I taught first grade for three years, Kindergarten for 17 years for a total of 20 years at Norman Binkley. Eleven of my years at Binkley were job-sharing years.
“Playways to Learning,” is my philosophy for teaching kindergarten. I want the child’s first experience in school to be a positive one they will enjoy, love and hopefully never forget!
