Dr. Carol Hammond

Hammond About the Principal –

Dr. Carol Hammond was born in Nashville and has lived here all her life. She graduated from Lipscomb University with a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1968 and received the M.A.T. in Administration and Supervision from M.T.S.U. in 1971. Dr. Hammond received the Ed.D. degree from T.S.U. in 1986.

Dr. Hammond began her teaching career in 1968 at Brick Church Elementary where she taught second grade for five years. She then became a stay-at-home mom for thirteen years with her four children. Before returning to teaching full-time, she substitute taught for a year and gained experience in teaching all grade levels. She returned to teaching in 1986 and taught sixth grade at Whitsitt Elementary; she later became Program Assistant and Assistant Principal there. In 1999, she became Principal at Berry Elementary and moved to Norman Binkley in 2002 in the same position.

Family is very important to Dr. Hammond. She and her husband married in 1969 and raised four children: Paul, Jeff, Beth, and Craig. All of the children are grown and married; Dr. Hammond enjoys spending time with their four grandchildren; six year old Ellie, four year old twins Cole and Cooper, and 6 month old Harris. Other interests include reading, walking, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Hammond looks forward to coming to school each day. She enjoys working with the children and their parents, the teachers and staff, and with everyone who works to make the school day successful for all. She enjoys watching teachers teach and seeing children learn; she knows that she is in the greatest profession available and feels fortunate to be working with the children and staff at Norman Binkley.
