I was born in Memphis, TN and was educated through the Memphis City School System. I completed my undergraduate coursework at Fisk University in Nashville, TN and received a B.A. in Sociology and Public Administration after which I worked for the State of Tennessee as a claims examiner for the Social Security Administration. However, there was one tiny problem. I had little interaction with people which is not at all a compliment to my personality. I have always been influenced and driven by the power of education. It is indeed the great equalizer!
After deciding that I wanted to pursue teaching, I matriculated into Belmont University in Nashville and received a Master of Arts in Education. While attending Belmont I completed extensive practicum coursework work at Julia Green Elementary in 3rd grade. I completed student teaching assignments at Inglewood Elementary in Kindergarten and at Dan Mills Elementary in 4th grade.
My philosophy of education is based on the fundamental belief that the student is at the center of every effort put forth to enhance the education experience. Learning is the process of building upon a framework of prior knowledge and newly constructed ideas and abilities. My hope is that my students learn to become creative thinkers and problem solvers.
